India: Humanitarian Snapshot Report 12: Aftermath of Cyclone Titli in AP and Odisha, Oct - 8 Nov 2018

A. Situation Andhra Pradesh and Odisha stared at a possible flood situation, a day after Cyclone ‘Titli’ hit coastal Odisha and Andhra Pradesh at around 4:30-5:30am on October 11, bringing with it strong winds and heavy rains in these two neighboring Indian states. As the cyclone - with a speed of 140-150 kmph - hit the coastal area, trees and electric poles were uprooted in the region. Ganjam and Gajapati districts of Odisha were badly affected. Titli has remained the most intense tropical cyclone in the Bay of Bengal in 2018. Due to high atmospheric moisture and warmer oceanic surface temperatures between Gopalpur and Northern Andra Pradesh in mainland India, Titli intensified into a Cyclonic Storm on October 10, 2018. The cyclonic storm has caused hugged damaged to lives, property and damaged the standing crops. Nearly 80.1 lakhs population were affected, disrupting road and telecommunications networks and power and water supply.
