Yemen: British Red Cross comment on Yemen peace talks

Source: British Red Cross Country: Yemen
Lorraine Marulanda, Head of the Middle East and North Africa for the British Red Cross, said: We welcome the international efforts taking place to work towards a lasting political solution for Yemen. We hope that these efforts will ensure a long-term cessation of hostilities and the opening up of humanitarian access. Yemeni people need a period of safety and stability in order to be able to access support, such as healthcare or to find food for their families. A break in the hostilities will allow aid agencies to reach those in need of help. In the long-term Yemen needs sustainable, political solution to end this conflict and tragic human suffering. Notes to editor: The UN estimates that Yemen could be facing the worst famine in 100 years and that 14 million people are at risk of starvation. Our colleagues are on the ground now providing people with food, clean water and access to healthcare, but it is not enough. Humanitarian aid alone will not save Yemen. People can help now by donating to the British Red Cross Yemen Crisis Appeal www.redcross.org.uk/YemenCrisishttp://www.redcross.org.uk/YemenCrisis ENDS The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are.
