STRONG WIND WARNING NUMBER SIXTEEN ISSUED BY THE SOLOMON ISLANDS METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE AT 9:30am THIS MORNING, MONDAY 11th FEBRUARY, 2019. A STRONG WIND WARNING IS CURRENT FOR MOST WATERS AND LAND AREAS. SITUATION: A MONSOON TROUGH LINKS TO A LOW LOCATED IN THE CORAL SEAS, SOUTH OF SOLOMON ISLANDS; WHILST A GENERAL WESTERLY WIND FLOW PERSIST OVER THE COUNTRY. EXPECTED WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 KNOTS GUSTING TO 30 KNOTS. MODERATE TO ROUGH SEAS AND MODERATE SWELLS (2.5 to 3.0 metres) OVER MOST WATERS. SQUALLY SHOWERS WITH HEAVY RAIN AREAS AND THUNDERSTORMS. SEA TRAVELERS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AS THESE STRONG WINDS HAVE THE POTENTIAL OF PRODUCING DANGEROUS WAVE CONDITIONS WHICH ARE HAZARDOUS TO SMALL BOATS. The next STRONG WIND WARNING will be issued at 4pm this afternoon, Monday 11th February, 2019. Note: A strong wind warning means that winds of 15 to 25 knots which may gust up to 30 knots are expected to produce hazardous sea wave conditions to small crafts. Decision as to the degree of hazard will be left up to the boatman, based on his experience and size and type of boat. Be aware that these wave forecasts are an average.
