MYANMAR Nearly 500 people were temporarily displaced in Kyaukme Township of Shan State following fighting between the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) and the Shan State Progressive Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) on 9 February. The displaced people are staying in two locations in Kyaukme Town where they have received initial assistance including food and other relief items provided by the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) and local community. However, blankets, warm clothes and sleeping mats are urgently needed. 500 people displaced PHILIPPINES The Philippines Department of Health (DOH) on 6 February declared a major measles outbreak in Metro Manila and Central Luzon, which has now expanded to other areas of Luzon and Central and Eastern Visayas. In its latest update, the DOH reports 4,302 suspected cases of measles since January this year and at least 70 deaths, with the numbers expected to increase in the coming days. Following the declaration of the outbreak, the DOH is ramping up public information and supplemental vaccination activities in Metro Manila,
Central Luzon and Mimaropa. The World Health Organization (WHO) is working closely with the DOH in advancing the call for parents to have their children vaccinated and avoid close contact with those identified as measles patients. 70 people dead in measles outbreak TONGA Tropical Storm Neil formed in the south Pacific Ocean in close proximity to Tonga. The storm is currently moving south and weakening.
Reports of major damage in Tonga is not expected. VANUATU A tropical storm system formed about 700km west of Vanuatu.
Current forecasts predict it will make landfall on Malampa Island on 13 February, potentially with the strength of a tropical storm with wind gusts up to 80km/h in areas close to the centre Vanuatu.
