Niger: Niger - Attacks in Diffa by Nigerian non-state armed groups (DG ECHO) (ECHO Daily Flash as of 26 March 2019)

Source: European Commission s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Country: Niger, Nigeria
Over the last few days, several localities of Diffa (Dewa, Guagam, elhadj Mainari, and Boula Kessa) have been violently targeted by non-state armed groups from Nigeria that killed more than 20 civilians and dozens of shelters have burnt down. Multi-sector assessment is being organized by the Rapid Response Mechanism supported by DG ECHO to identify the humanitarian needs and deploy first humanitarian aid. Since early 2019, violence has increased in Diffa region where more than 250 000 people - refugees, internally displaced people and returnees - continue to be affected by forced displacement due to armed conflict over the last four years. Significant humanitarian support is still required in Diffa region: provision of food, emergency shelter, protection, access to school and basic health care.
