Morocco: Geneva: Morocco Takes Part in International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction

A major international conference called the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction opened on Wednesday in Geneva with the participation of more than 4,000 specialists from some 150 countries, including Morocco. Organized under the joint chairmanship of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Swiss government, this conference, which will run until 17 May, is held under the theme The resilience dividend: towards sustainable and inclusive societies . The Moroccan delegation to this conference is notably composed of Morocco #39;s permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Omar Zniber, director of governance at the ministry of General Affairs and Governance, Mohamed Mahdad, governor of disaster risk management at the Interior ministry, Abdellah Nassif, president of the national weather forecast center, Elmessaoudi Brahim and chairman of the national weather research center, Haddouch Hassan. The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is a biennial forum for information exchange, discussion of latest developments, knowledge and partnership-building across sectors, with the goal of improving implementation of disaster risk reduction through better communication and coordination amongst stakeholders. Its core function is to enable governments, NGOs, scientists, practitioners, and UN organizations to share experience and formulate strategic guidance for the implementation of global disaster risk reduction agreements: the 2005 Hyogo Framework for Action and its post-2015 successor the Sendai Framework.
