By Merlito G. Edale, Jr. CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Oct. 21 (PIA) – To assist them in returning to the folds of law, at least 13 former rebels have undergone an entrepreneurial development and skills training recently. The training was spearheaded by the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army 86th Infantry Battalion based in Jones, Isabela, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provincial offices in Isabela. Lt. Col. Ali Alejo, battalion commander said, the former rebels who have decided to surrender have availed financial assistance through the Expanded Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government. “With the help of DOLE, DTI and TESDA and other government agencies, we want that the former rebels will have basic knowledge on how to utilize the assistance that were provided to them under the gov’t’s E-CLIP,” Alejo said. He said the government is sincere on its drive to end local armed conflict in the country as he urged New Peoples Army rebels to surrender and avail themselves of the E-Clip program, which provides skills training, basic services, benefits and support to the former rebels. The army officer also acknowledged the convergence of government agencies that are helping in providing the necessary skills of the former rebels to become productive citizens and utilize properly the money that the government has provided for them.
