Courtesy of #DStv403 JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Transport Department is working overtime to improve roads. Its road network improvement drive, launched on Saturday, will include, grass cutting, patching of potholes and fixing traffic lights. READ: Give us 6 months to fix roads - Mamabolo  Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo says the drive is mainly to save lives. This is a very very important breakthrough for us. The reason why we have decided to launch this programme is because we have come to appreciate that the impact of the lockdown,  Mamabolo said. WATCH: Joburg has a pothole crisis    The backlogs that were there even before lockdown, have all contributed to even greater massive backlogs in potholes, bad conditions on the road, hazardous conditions on the road that pose a threat to lives of people. So we have to do this programme to save lives, to play our part in road safety and making share that our roads mustn t deteriorate to a point where we will not have any roads to carry economic movement of people, he said. We re taking extraordinary me working Saturday and Sundays. We needed extraordinary effort to be able to crack the backlog that has accumulated over time to make sure we bring great relief to the residents of Gauteng.
