Report highlights inequality in SA’s education system Estelle.Bronkhorst Thu, 11/13/2025 - 07:30 JOHANNESBURG - 31 years into democracy and that promised better life for all is still a long walk away.And, for our children, that walk is even longer.The latest report from the Human Rights Commission shows the education system is still unequal.Rural and no-fee schools have collapsing buildings, overcrowded classrooms, and unsafe sanitation.READ: Auditor-General finds education deficienciesIn some areas, pupils are still using pit latrines and studying without clean water or enough teachers.Boarding schools were also flagged for poor living conditions.The Commission says this is violates the Constitutional right to education.It s given the Basic Education Department 60 days to respond.Acting COO of the SAHRC, Eric Mokonyama, has more on this report.
