JOHANNESBURG - It s now more evident than ever that the mafia is taking over the country.South Africa has been ranked seventh in the world for organised crime.It comes in behind countries like Mexico, Colombia and the DRC and just ahead of Nigeria.READ: SA s porous borders | Organised crime and illicit trade costs SA billionsCrimes identified in South Africa include synthetic drug trafficking, cybercrime and counterfeiting.Criminal networks are becoming more global and tech-savvy, while cooperation among countries is weakening.Rumbi Matamba from the Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime unpacks the numbers.
