NFP withdraws from coalition government in KZN Vusi.Bafetane Wed, 01/07/2026 - 18:45 The National Freedom Party (NFP) The National Freedom Party (NFP) JOHANNESBURG - The National Freedom Party (NFP) has withdrawn from KwaZulu-Natal s Government of Provincial Unity (GPU). The party has instructed Mbali Shinga to resign as Social Development MEC.The GPU, which is comprised of the IFP, ANC, DA and NFP, holds a narrow 41-seat majority in the 80-seat chamber.The MK party has 37 seats and the EFF has two seats.Thami Ntuli from the IFP was elected premier through a coalition that includes the IFP, ANC, DA and the NFP.But with the NFP out of the governing government of provincial unity, the latter coalition holds 50% of the seats in the legislature.If the NFP forms a coalition with the MKP Party and the EFF, they would also hold 50% representation, leaving the provincial legislature without a 50% plus one majority.
