I want a clean SAPS | Adams lays nepotism charges against Masemola

I want a clean SAPS | Adams lays nepotism charges against Masemola Zandile.Khumalo Fri, 10/31/2025 - 12:30 JOHANNESBURG - National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams has opened a criminal case against National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola. He accuses Masemola of nepotism within the South African Police Service (SAPS), which he claims has been turned into an “employment agency for families” under certain senior officers.Adams told eNCA: “What I have before me are allegations made by certain people I will not name. By the way the national commissioner is running the SAPS, there is, in all probability, a degree of truth in the paperwork I presented in court this morning. “I m not targeting anybody. If anybody is asking me to look the other way, in the face of what appears to be happening to our police service, then I will not. If, by coincidence, I happen to lay five charges against the same person, that’s because five things have been brought to my attention that deserve the attention of investigators.”He criticised the alleged deteriorating state of policing, saying the public is losing trust in the SAPS because of corruption at the top.“I want a clean SAPS. I know people who have called 10111 to save a life, and no police van came. Yet generals are buying Lamborghinis, generals are living in five-star, generals are buying hotels. We can t get proper tyres on police vans in the poorer areas. And some people are living billionaire lifestyles on our tax backs. I will not stand for this,” Adams said. The complaint against Masemola comes just days after Adams opened a perjury case against KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee that Adams had abused his position as MP to access classified information.
